Seventeen years ago, my family and I were new to the United States. We escaped a war in Bosnia that had claimed more than 200,000 lives and displaced millions of others. In the United States, we faced a different type of challenge: adapting to a new life and culture in Georgia.
Turning to Goodwill
I had little work experience, but was determined to find a job that enabled me to earn a living. After applying at half a dozen companies, I was hired as a cashier at Goodwill. I used the position to prove my desire to succeed and my ability to be a leader and worked my way up from cashier to store manager in just two years. After nearly two decades, I continues to look forward to new challenges and opportunities at work.
I am now a Regional Director of Goodwill stores.
