Non-profit CEO plans to step down after nearly three decades of leadership

DECATUR – Raymond Bishop, president and CEO of Goodwill of North Georgia, has announced his intent to retire from the organization at the end of October after more than 27 years of service with the Atlanta-based agency and more than 39 years with Goodwill overall.

“Ray’s impact on Goodwill of North Georgia is immeasurable. The tremendous growth and financial stability we’ve achieved under his leadership puts us in a great position to continue making an impact on the lives of the people we serve for years to come,” says Marc Azar, board chair for Goodwill of North Georgia.

Since Bishop was named president in 1990, Goodwill’s retail footprint has grown from 9 locations to more than 100 retail stores and attended donation centers, and revenue has grown from $5.2 million to more than $133 million in 2016. As a result, the impact on the community has grown exponentially – less than 100 people were being placed into jobs in 1990, compared to 20,903 in 2016.

“Ray has dedicated most of his career to furthering the Goodwill mission. We are saddened by his departure, but are happy for his well-deserved transition into the next chapter of his life,” Azar adds.

The Goodwill of North Georgia Board of Directors has launched a nationwide search for Bishop’s successor.
