Sandy Springs resident DeShauna Davis came to Goodwill’s Pleasant Hill Career Center in February 2020. She had seen opportunities with amazon advertised and was excited about the possibility of re-joining the company. Prior to the pandemic, DeShauna had served as an amazon assistant shift manager.
A Macon native, DeShauna moved to the area to attend the Art Institute of Atlanta, graduating in 2015. She has extensive retail experience including roles at Best Buy, Kohl’s, The Limited, Abercrombie & Fitch, and Macy’s. DeShauna also completed studies at Paul Mitchell-Atlanta and is a certified cosmetologist, earning extra income as a beautician.
DeShauna shares that the Goodwill team was very helpful and kept her updated about the amazon hiring process. She’s particularly impressed that they have stayed in touch with her throughout the last 18 months. She has accepted several positions at amazon during that time, although the distance from her home has caused her to resign each one. She’s currently waiting for a return to amazon on August 22nd.
In July 2020, DeShauna landed a job as a call center associate with Faneuil, Inc.; however, the onboarding classes were canceled due to the pandemic and the job fell through. She then revisited her Career Connector profile and continued using this resource to find employment.
She’s currently a contract worker at Tennis Sports Warehouse in Alpharetta, where she is earning $14 per hour as an order picker. DeShauna looks forward to continuing her career in warehouse work and is interested in growing into a management role. In the coming weeks, she plans to investigate Goodwill’s Supply Chain Logistics Skills Training program. And, although she does not desire a permanent career in retail, she notes that Macy’s is like a second home to her, and she’ll be heading back there soon to serve as a seasonal associate.
