Lawrenceville resident Elijah House was looking for a summer internship to expand his work experience beyond his DJ business. He had a particular interest in retail and was delighted to learn of the This Way ONward program when a Goodwill representative visited his school.

Elijah joined the cohort and began job readiness training in early April. His attendance and participation stood out among the group, where he distinguished himself with his engagement. He was so impressed with the program that he referred one of his friends, who also enrolled. When the interviews were conducted in late May, Elijah was offered a position with Old Navy Sugarloaf Mills.

Elijah began his internship on June 14th and immediately performed above expectations. He particularly excelled at the cash wrap and with the promotion of the Navyist loyalty program and the Old Navy card. His success with customer relations earned him the Outstanding New Hire Performance Award at the program’s graduation, in recognition of the of enrollments he achieved.

Now in his junior year at Brookwood High School, Elijah has joined the Old Navy Sugarloaf team on a permanent basis. Assistant Manager Warren Petersen shares, “Elijah’s presence and maturity are impressive. He has lofty goals for a young adult. Elijah embodies Colin Powell’s words: ‘There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.’ Elijah will have no limits if he continues to attack each obstacle he comes across with the same tenacity that he’s displayed in his young career.”

Elijah has been swimming competitively since the age of six, and in his spare time, he enjoys photography. He hopes to attend Julliard to achieve his goal of becoming an actor.
