Meet Camisha

Camisha St. Luce spent several years navigating the challenges of temporary jobs, bouncing from warehouse to warehouse without a clear direction. However, a pivotal moment occurred when she walked into her local Goodwill Career Center in Smyrna. In a heartfelt conversation with the dedicated team, Camisha expressed her desire for a significant change in her life: she longed for a rewarding career that would provide stability for her family.

With a deep-rooted passion for the healthcare field but lacking the necessary education and credentials, Camisha felt somewhat lost. During her initial meeting, the supportive Smyrna team introduced her to Goodwill’s diverse catalog of skills training programs, emphasizing options that aligned perfectly with her aspirations, including the Healthcare Environmental Services program. This particular training was more than just a course; it represented a gateway to new opportunities — the chance to network, develop transferrable skills, and secure a sustainable income to support her family. As a devoted single parent, Camisha’s primary focus was ensuring her children had the life and security they deserved.

Encouraged by the team, Camisha attended a skills training information session, where she met Zina Frame-Leonard, the inspiring skills trainer at the career center. Zina meticulously reviewed the details of each program, explaining various funding options available to assist individuals like Camisha. Learning that she could utilize her SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) benefits to cover her job training expenses was a game-changer. It alleviated her anxiety and fueled her motivation to excel in the environmental services program.

Despite facing moments of self-doubt and the temptation to give up, Camisha’s determination shone through. With continuous encouragement from the caring Smyrna staff, she persevered, completed the training, and embarked on her job search journey.

At the career center, Camisha received invaluable assistance with resume writing and interview preparation. Armed with confidence and new skills, she applied for a position with Wellstar Health System. “The sky’s the limit!” she exclaimed. “The certifications I earned during training have transformed my résumé into a professional masterpiece!” Using the insights gained from mock interviews and practical training, Camisha excelled in her interview and ultimately received a job offer from Wellstar.

Today, Camisha proudly serves as an Environmental Services Technician at one of Wellstar’s hospitals, earning a livable wage that enables her to support her family comfortably. “I encourage anyone looking to master cleanliness procedures to take this class because Mrs. Frame will equip you with everything you need — and more,” she shared earnestly. Thanks to Goodwill, she has also gained the precious gift of time, allowing her to spend more quality moments with her children.
