Union City resident Corey Osley had years of experience in warehouse work, spending a lot of time on a forklift, but always dreaming of bigger machines. In July 2021, he decided it was time to pursue a new career path and came to Goodwill’s Decatur Career Center to learn more about the Supply Chain Management program and its transportation track, which would allow him to earn his CDL. Corey was grateful to be able to enroll in the program at no cost, thanks to the support provided by SNAP Works.

When classes began, Corey demonstrated a solid grasp of the material and consistently achieved top scores on the assignments. His active participation impressed the instructors, who noted Corey’s determination to balance caregiving responsibilities with his training.

After completing the classroom work, Corey earned Georgia Tech’s prestigious LEAP (Logistics Education & Pathways) certificate, along with OSHA10 and CPR/First Aid certifications. His next step was to begin CDL-A training at Georgia Piedmont Technical College in early August. During this hand-on segment, Corey continued to excel and was excited about his progress. On September 8th, he contacted Skills Trainer Jacqueline Dottin-Dodd to share the good news that he had passed his CDL-A exam. Corey accepted a position with Werner Enterprises, a leading trucking company. He is earning an impressive salary and is on the road to financial stability.

With more than 200 days on the job, Corey is excited about his future. He is thankful that Goodwill provided this opportunity to take his life in a new direction and his experience has encouraged his fiancĂ© to consider Goodwill’s Forklift program.

In recognition for his achievement, Goodwill is pleased to present Corey Osley with the 2022 Outstanding Graduate Award for the Decatur Career Center.
