Meet John Clink
During one of his frequent shopping trips to the Goodwill of North Georgia’s East Athens store, John noticed a sign advertising the avaialable skills training programs available at the Goodwill Career Center. John visited the career center for an opportunity to change his career and create a better future. He was struggling to meet the financial demands of his growing family and faced legal obligations that had previously hindered his ability to maintain employment.
After attending an information session about the different skills training programs, including the requirements for participation and how to secure funding, John decided to pursue a career pathway in welding. He was accepted into the program and received funding for his training through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). John’s commitment was evident as he maintained perfect attendance and actively participated in class discussions and projects in the welding shop.
In February 2024, John graduated from the welding program and began working with a Goodwill employment specialist. Together, they searched for job opportunities, completed applications, and prepared for interviews. John’s hard work paid off, and he now works for AAA Welding & Fabricating Service in Athens, GA. He is proud that the skills he acquired through the Goodwill welding training program have enabled him to provide for his family.
