Michelle made a brave decision to enroll in the medical billing and coding training program at Goodwill’s Woodstock Career Center, fueled by a heartfelt aspiration to find stability and build a brighter future for herself. Despite facing significant physical barriers, she refused to let those challenges define her journey. Instead, she embraced her inner strengths, her perseverance, discipline, and unwavering focus, driving her to overcome obstacles head-on. The support from SNAP Employment & Training played a crucial role in her success, lifting the financial burden of tuition and allowing her to wholeheartedly commit to her dreams.

During her training, Michelle demonstrated exceptional commitment. She diligently completed her online coursework, participated in job readiness training courses, and maintained consistent communication with the staff. Her hard work paid off. Upon finishing the program, Michelle received a job offer as a billing specialist at Hearts and Hands Therapy of Woodstock, with a competitive wage of $21.15 per hour.

Michelle’s next goal is to obtain her Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential.

When asked about her experience, Michelle shared heartfelt gratitude:
“Thanks to Goodwill, I was able to enroll in an area of study I’ve been wanting to do for years. When I got the opportunity to be in the program, I was so happy. I worked hard and remained focused on reaching my goal. Shortly after completing the program, I applied for a job as a medical biller and got the position. I was very excited! I’m enjoying what I do, and I’m looking forward to growing in my new role and taking the necessary steps to advance myself further in this field. What I love most is being able to help the company I work for, parents, and insurance companies reach their goal of serving patients. I’m very grateful for Goodwill. Thank you, Goodwill!”

Michelle’s story is a reminder that with the right support and a determined spirit, barriers can become steppingstones. She’s not just building a career; she’s building a legacy of resilience and service.
