Jonesboro resident Shaki Shamburger came to Goodwill’s Stockbridge Career Center in May 2022, looking for a summer job to help him earn some money before leaving for Middle Georgia State University. Although he already had a job at McDonald’s, he was eager to work as many hours as possible. Case Manager Keli Malik thought the This Way ONward program would be a great fit for Shaki. 

Shaki participated in a short job readiness training session, where he was able to enhance his digital skills thanks to the support provided by the Caterpillar grant. He interviewed with Old Navy’s Henry Town Center store and began working in mid-June. 

Old Navy’s store leaders were impressed with Shaki’s performance and noted how well he responded to coaching. As the summer drew to a close, they suggested Shaki consider transferring to Old Navy’s Warner Robins store, which is located near his university. Delighted at the prospect of having a job waiting for him when he got to college, Shaki happily accepted the offer.
