Diego Hernandez-Millan

A native of Puerto Rico, Diego Hernandez-Millan spent much of his childhood living in Pennsylvania before his family relocated to Georgia in search of better educational opportunities. His parents and older siblings sought job search assistance at the Cartersville Career Center and in 2019, when Diego turned 16, he visited the center looking for his first job.

Lead Career Coach Beatriz Gonzalez had assisted his family members and was eager to help Diego. The pair worked on his resume and job application, and then practiced interview skills. Diego landed a position at Wendy’s in Acworth that July, where he remained until his family relocated to Canton in Spring 2020.

Upon settling in Canton, Diego decided to focus his energies on finishing high school, and graduated from Alatoona High School in May 2021. After graduation, he wanted to find a job so he could help his parents financially, purchase a car, and then eventually resume his studies.

In July 2021, he came into the Woodstock Career Center, where Beatriz was now working. With Beatriz’s assistance, Diego learned some new tips which helped him in his job search, since he was now focused on starting down a career path.

Diego’s preparation enabled him to secure a job with Constellium, where he is employed as a machine operator at a wage of $17 per hour. He is enjoying his job and is especially grateful for the opportunity to work overtime, which is allowing him to reach his financial goals.

The Woodstock Career Center team is proud of Diego and looks forward to following him as he reaches for new horizons. He hopes to return to school to pursue a degree in psychology.
