Dylan Walker had just turned 16 and was finishing his sophomore year at North Atlanta High School when he saw information about the This Way ONward 2021 summer internship program. Since he would be spending the summer in Kennesaw, he decided to visit Goodwill’s Woodstock Career Center to learn more about this opportunity.

Dylan and his mother met with Goodwill Training Manager Thea Parlagreco, who agreed that participating in This Way ONward would be an excellent way for Dylan to have a first job experience. Dylan enrolled and began virtual job readiness training (JRT) classes in preparation for his interview.

Dylan’s performance in JRT was noteworthy – he was punctual and actively contributed to class discussions. When it was time for his interview with Kate Coffey, one of the assistant managers at Old Navy’s Barrett Pavilion store, he easily secured one of the internship spots.

The internship began in mid-June and Dylan continued to distinguish himself with his motivation, reliability, and dependability. He built upon what he learned in JRT, further developing his communication and problem-solving skills. Dylan enjoyed getting to know his coworkers and found himself thriving in the team environment.

As the internship ended, Dylan was invited to continue his employment with Old Navy as a brand associate. Although the store’s location requires a commute from his home, he accepted the offer and appreciates that his managers accommodate his school schedule, which includes his participation in marching band.

Now in his junior year, Dylan plans to stay with Old Navy until he finishes high school. He’s presently exploring college choices and if he can find a wildlife biology program at a campus near an Old Navy store, he would be pleased to remain with the company.
